Winter 2010 - Next Steps
Request a Moodle or Blackboard course shell
Why not incorporate course materials online or engage your students with online activities? We offer two learning management systems: Moodle and Blackboard. To determine which system would meet your learning and teaching goals, visit Getting Started. Attend an introductory workshop followed by a consultation to meet your specific needs.
To familiarize your students with the use of Blackboard, book a class orientation through our online forms.
If your students are new to Moodle they can complete the online self-paced orientation video.
If you are interested in engaging students in a large class setting, iclickers are available for trial use.
A plagiarism prevention and detection service is available through the use of Turnitin.
A Mailman mailing list will provide you with the ability to communicate with your students if you do not plan to use Moodle or Blackboard.
Need some assistance?
If you require further assistance after participating in one of our Blackboard or Moodle workshops, please request a consultation. We welcome you to discuss with us any other educational technology requirement.
Where can you find us?
We are located in the Mearns Centre for Learning/McPherson Library, Room 034. For directions, please see our floor plans.
Brower support for Moodle and Blackboard
A friendly reminder to our Moodle and Blackboard community that newly-released browsers such as Internet Explorer 8, Firefox 3, Google Chrome, and Safari 4 may not be fully-compatible with Moodle and Blackboard. Upgrading may cause you difficulties; for the best experience we recommend Firefox 2, which you can still download.
Blackboard's supported browsers include: IE6 (on XP only), IE7, Firefox 2.0, Safari 3.0 (on Mac 10.4 only). For more information, see the full list.
Moodle's supported browsers include: IE6 & 7, Firefox 2 & 3. For more information, see the MoodleHelp browser check page.
Please contact the UVic Help Desk if you have any questions, and don't forget to check our BBHelp and MoodleHelp support pages.
